Snips nasally voice could be heard clearly throughout the main foyer of Ponyville Town Hall.
“And that is Snail and I’s presentation about where snot comes from!” He said proudly.
“Well, um, that’s a very interesting aspect of biology that I had never considered until tonight!” Miss Cheerilee tried to look supportive, Mayor Mare wore the practiced face of a politician, and Princess Twilight Sparkle was writing something down on her tablet.
It was Friday night and the Town Hall was hosting its first annual Ponyville School Science Fair. The students from the school had formed teams to put together their presentations. Besides deciding the topic of their presentations, Miss Cheerilee had told her students that this would be a great chance for them to develop organization skills and learn how delegate work and responsibility.
Leaving Snips and Snails rather viscous and sticky display, the 3 mares made their way to the next presentation. Miss Cheerilee had to admit that the CMC looked the part for a science fair in their lab coats, safety glasses and lab gloves. Twilight even mutter something about being it nice to see ponies wearing proper PPE.
But Cheerilee was curious about what the 3 fillies presentation was about since the only thing present was a stool with a bucket water with H2O written on it. The fillies were standing at almost attention in a line behind the bucket with big smiles on their faces. The only thing that seemed out of the ordinary was that Sweetie Belle’s horn was glowing softly.
The 3 mares came to a stop in front of CMC. Cheerilee gave the fillies a smile as she addressed them.
“Evening girls! So, um what kind of presentation are you giving tonight?” She looked down at the bucket. “Apparently it’ll involve water?”
Applebloom spoke up. “Yep! But it’s just a component of r’ amazin’ presentation!”
As she said this Sweetie floated out a piece of silver looking material about the size of an apple. At the same time Applebloom tugged on a cord alongside that the 3 mares hadn’t given much attention. Rolling down from the ceiling was a banner that read.
BEHOLD THE POWER OF SODIUM!
Just as Sweetie let go of the chunk with her levitation magic. Miss Cheerilee’s eyes went wide. Mayor Mare looked confused. Twilight frantically tried to reach for the falling chunk of sodium with her own levitation, but was just a second too late.
The next day the headline on the Ponyville Express read.

This was the first drawing I started during me recent Picarto stream. The theme was back to school so I had to do CMC piece.
