This didn’t actually happen but it’s just my theory
The Lost Alicorn - Many years ago, there was a great land called Skyros where the Alicorns lived. The Alicorn princess met and fell in love with an earth pony named Argyle and had a child whome they named Sunny. Sunny was destined to become the new alicorn princess of Skyros and unite the crystals to bring back unity and magic for the ponies below in Equestria.
There was another Alicorn named Opaline who was not in good terms with Celestia and Luna. She was an elemental Alicorn and wanted to Rule Equestria on her own. This selfishness caused her to threaten the royale family of Skyros. Her eyes shifted to little baby princess Sunny.
In order to protect Sunny, Argyle and his wife decided that he would leave Skyros with Sunny and hide amongst the earth ponies. He promised to raise Sunny to be the future saviour of Equestria and bring back magic and unity which the ponies lost moons ago.
Unfortunately Argyle passed away before he could guide Sunny more towards the mission.
But many years later, Sunny met a unicorn Izzy and went down an adventure for bringing back magic which she succeeded in doing. Sunny unlocked her Alicorn powers which Argyle had used magic to hide in order to protect her from harm and keep her identity hidden.
Sunny has not yet unlocked the full potential of her Alicorn self but she is still trying to figure it out. She needs to unlock it completely in order to become a full fledged alicorn which she was at birth. One day she will follow her destiny and find her way back to Skyros and this time she won’t be alone, Her friends will be with her. Sunny, the lost alicorn princess of Skyros.
