Originally, after Cozy was set free for rehabilitation, Starlight and Trixie had volunteered to guide her through the process as well as legally adopt her. Sunset volunteered the same.

It took a few magic duels and a concerning amount of property damage for them to come to the conclusion that Starlight and Trixie would be Cozy’s primary guardians while Sunset would co-parent alongside the couple.

But for those early stages of the filly’s redemption, Twilight decided it would be best for her to start out away from Canterlot and Ponyville, in a place that hadn’t been wounded by Cozy in the past so she could start fresh. Who better to entrust such a volatile child than the Princess of Love and her BBBFF? Plus it came with a built-in friend with Flurry Heart!

That ended up working far better than Twilight had intended or desired.

Cozy is still fresh from the stone here and nopony knows exactly what she is yet, just that something has happened to her and something must’ve damaged her wings in some way.

Magic can’t drastically alter your DNA to the point your default form becomes a different species entirely, right?
